Student Conduct

Respectful participation, prohibited conduct, interim measures and fair disciplinary review.

Official institutional policy

01

Community expectations

Students must participate honestly and respectfully, follow reasonable academic and technical instructions, protect the privacy and safety of others and use University systems for authorized purposes. Vigorous disagreement and reasoned criticism are compatible with these duties; threats, targeted harassment, discrimination prohibited by applicable law, disruption, fraud and unauthorized system access are not.

02

Reports and interim measures

Reports may be submitted through Student Services. When necessary to protect people, records or the learning environment, the University may impose a temporary, nonpunitive restriction while reviewing the matter. It must be tailored, periodically reviewed and does not itself establish responsibility.

03

Fair process and sanctions

Before discipline, the student receives the material allegation, a reasonable opportunity to respond and a written outcome. Measures may include guidance, warning, access restrictions, restitution, probation, suspension or dismissal. The outcome considers seriousness, impact, intent, prior record and consistency. An appeal may allege material procedural error, new evidence, conflict of interest or disproportionate sanction.
