Academic Credit and Program Requirements

How academic work, credit, curriculum requirements and substitutions are recorded.

Official institutional policy

01

Published curriculum

The applicable curriculum is the program version assigned to the student at enrollment, subject to documented changes that do not materially disadvantage the student. Each program entry identifies required courses, credits or equivalent workload, sequence, learning outcomes and completion conditions.

A course is complete only when the student satisfies its assessed requirements and a final result is recorded. Participation, access time or submission of only part of the work does not by itself earn credit.

02

Credit and academic workload

Credit values represent the amount and level of expected learning, including guided instruction, reading, research, discussion, assessment and independent work. The course record, rather than a single measure of login time, is authoritative. Program pages must state the credit system used before students enroll.

03

Substitution and curriculum change

A substitution, waiver or individualized study requires a written academic decision identifying the requirement affected, the basis and the equivalent learning outcome. No official may waive the essential learning outcomes or total completion requirement of an award. Approved decisions are retained in the student record.
